it's my habit to always revisiting my old designs and updating it ever so slightly to make them perfect. 

case in point, these cardlettes at etsy now with rounded corner. more over, thinking as customers has lead me to split these designs to 4 different postings at etsy to make shopping much more convenient. most of them are printed on 100% post consumer waste paper!  60% off the original pricing is the icing on this newly and improved cardlettes cake. 

in the world where you can tell your friends your number, dialed in their cell phone, then have them to call you so you can have a miss call of their number, why would i ever produce this product that seemingly not needed anymore? because the act of giving a card with your information on it in a glassine envelope is much more civilized and elegant.

november is my month

anthropologie has done some really right with their branding. but lately i'm loving their catalog so much that i wish i'm the girl living in it. these two are the images from their november catalog. for some reason they remind me [the image] of russia. i've never been there, but that's how i think winter in russia should be, snowing inside your mansion while wearing fabulous clothes and carefree hair!

i really don't need to love anthropologie more than i have. however, i was pleasantly surprise to receive these cards from them for my birthday. i love these! the cupcake image was punched through a thick cardboard card. i'm keeping these!

labor day weekend sale

for some reason, in our household, a lot of things usually happen in the autumn-winter months. many of our close relatives birthdays, endless dinner invitations, as well as the holidays that's looming. so we thought it's time to stock up that note cards to say thank you or to say happy birthday. that's why we're having a 10% off sale of everything before shipping in our etsy store starting thursday to monday (labor day weekend). this includes any wedding invitation orders placed this weekend! we won't have any more sale of this type other than this weekend.

i created the new wall or desk calendar to have the versatility so you can write on it, you can put stickers on it, you can doodle on it, do what ever your heart content. this calendar is printed digitally on 100% recycled 30% post consumer cover weight paper. this calendar can be used internationally since there's no holiday indication on it. ^^

it's been a while since i last post on this blog. i've been busy with my prep for the modern bridal faire in ritz carlton, san francisco. tons of things to design, print and look at to make sure that the items i have is absolutely the best ones i have. i'll post some of the pics after the faire.

on that note, i've put up 2 new wedding announcement set, butterfly and lucky. these sets are inspired by chinese folk design, and really what i've done is applying 1 idea and executing it in 2 different ways. that's part of my process when i'm getting ideas. i usually explore as much possibilities as i can before deciding on which direction i'd like to go. if i woke up the next day and still love it, then i'm sure i'll love it forever. this is may be why i feel my design progression is rather slow, since i'm very picky myself. the designs that i sell are all the things that i love and happy with. this way, i won't be sick of producing these designs since these are printed, cut, and sewn in my studio by me!

this project begins with a decision to create a chinese announcement with a modern twist. i struggled to start, so this idea was flying around in my head, and on my computer, for a while now. almost abandoned a few times, this project kept getting back to me, asking me to finish it. in the end i'm glad i stuck with it. the execution using sewing on paper is deliberate as a symbol of togetherness. while the execution of the butterfly set was derailed (due to my ignorance of paper weight vs needle and my sewing machine power).

lucky was supposed to be a booklet style where you hold the announcement like a book. but due to paper choice, i can't give up the paper that i like, i have to use different method. i'm using this method for my future project! ^^

the end result of butterfly set happened by accident though. but i love it at the end because i think it told a different story. lucky set, on the other hand, was pretty easy to execute since the end result was exactly how i imagine it to be. all in all, i'm glad this project came to fruition. and i hope you enjoy it as much as i do! you can find these at my etsy store.

i'm very happy

these came in last night, and it was a nice surprise. i've been waiting for this item to be produced for so long, and i'm sooo glad that they turns out so well. these notecards has the color and paper quality exactly how i imagined it should be. they're up on etsy and you can get it in a pack of 4 of only popsicle or breeze or mixed colors.

the act of writing down on a note card and then sending it out via traditional mail is the type of ritual with a certain emotional satisfaction and joy.

i grew up with pen pals, sending out letter to people, and then receiving replies. these days what i see in my post box usually are bills, dvds, and/or promotional coupons. even with bills there just have been less of it since mostly i use electronic bills. but once in a blue moon, i would receive a paper invitation. mostly for weddings, but sometimes there are for birthdays or other parties. for me, opening that envelope is a joy... it's a tactile thing that i can see and touch. like opening a gift. and what i love most about it is that when the time comes for the party, i can grab it and then head out and have the address and information in my hand. of course, during holiday time, to my delight, i sometime see greeting cards filled with the notes from my friends, whom usually i have scarce contact with. 

the advantage of using electronic as the means to communicate is it's cheap, fast, and convenient. but that's what it is, it's cheap fast and convenient, with less emotional rewards. it's like eating a frozen dinner as opposed to cooking dinner. it may be not from scratch, help may be used using everyday conveniences, however, for people who are dear to you, seeing you taking a bit of time to prepare a meal is surely a joy to see. this for me describe my feeling receiving a nice card to text messages or emails. it's more intimate, more involved, and more effort appreciated.

Damask Wedding invitation set

I usually work on my design in a chunk of time, for a whole month, instead of spread it around (hours each day), because I'm still trying to get a hang of my schedules etc. Between talking to vendors, making marketing decisions, and thinking about production, it's hard to switch between the business brain and creative brain. In order to get me in the mood to (or more being inspired to) design, I usually look at different things, from other design sites to domino magazine (oh ... so sad when they stopped their publication).

So I have been so inspired by wallpapers when I did the series. However, I do want it to be modern, thus the colors, the type mixed in with a more traditional layout giving it just the right twist. The notecards is just the texture and blank inside. The series can be expanded more than these items.

SPRING Wedding invitation series

Inspired by indian henna art as well as the sunny california, these items were hand drawn before being processed digitally. Originally, the illustrations were designed for the studio's creed (do good, be creative, grow), however, I was happy with the end result that I ended up using it here.
